Hibernation is almost over…
Friday, January 12th, 2007Hello hogs!
Well, spring’s–hopefully–just around the corner, though you couldn’t tell by the temperature today. One bloody degree. And that’s without the wind chill. Still, Kevin and Joe, as insane as they are, opted to cycle to work. Crazy if you ask me, but I’m not nearly as hardcore as those guys when it comes to cycling, so more power to ‘em.
Moving on. This past Monday (Jan. 8th), the Lane Hogs served a meal at the Vermillion Welcome Table. As per the website:
The welcome table was founded in early 2001. The primary activity of the welcome table is to provide a good meal along with friendly company to anyone who wishes to attend. This meal is provided free of charge.
Twenty-three volunteers–nearly all of whom where Lane Hogs–served 141 guests! As opposed to other organizations of this type, the Welcome Table asks the volunteer group to pay for and prepare the meal, so it makes it a bit more of a challenge. Fortunately, Kevin handled a lot of the logistics–like he usually does–as well as the cooking, so the rest of us only had to serve the meals. Makes sure you check the gallery, as I hope to soon post some pictures from the evening.
We were able to get enough donations from the Lane Hogs group, as well as some friends, to easily pay for the entire meal. We even had around $100 left over that we donated back to the Welcome Table.
All in all, it was a great experience; one we hope to do again in the near future.
As for other news, most of us are participating in spinning over at the dome in order to get back into shape for the spring riding season. Hope to see you all there!
